Current Courses
A wide variety of courses are offered in Florida's law-related theme-based schools. Many courses are individualized to fit a particular emphasis within the total school curriculum. According to a survey conducted last year, here are some of the most popular law-related high school courses offered. Law Studies Speech/debate Law Concepts Business Management and Law Comprehensive Law Studies Magnet World History Legal Systems Law/Advocacy I Court Procedures Global Studies Court Internship Forensic Science Criminal Justice I, II, III Environmental Law Law-Related World History Constitutional Law Community Service Multicultural Studies Legal Issues in Public Affairs Our Living Constitution Principles of Public Service Social Ethics Juvenile Delinquency Criminal Investigations Introduction to Criminal Justice Typologies of Criminal Behavior Magnet American Government Introduction to Corrections Administration of Criminal Justice CivicsPrograms may offer multiple strands to attract a variety of students. For example, the Miami Carol City Center for Legal and Public Affairs offers a three strand program allowing students to specialize in pre-law, public administration or criminal justice. Eligibility varies from school to school as well. Dual enrollment programs are often incorporated to allow students the opportunity to also earn college credit. Curriculum frameworks for these courses are available through the Florida Department of Education or the individual schools. A listing of textbooks used in the various courses has been compiled by The Florida Law Related Education Association, Inc.
